My son will be 2 this coming July and still wont give up on the bottle all through the night. He will fuss and whine until he gets the milk bottle. I have watered it down to only an ounce of milk and all the rest water which is better but he wont take only the water in his bottle. Ever since he was born he has never used a pacifier so that is not a solution. I have been giving in to this habit to keep the peace and to be able to sleep through the night. I know the "cry it out" option but a week or more with out sleep getting through the phase is not an option for me. Any suggestions or helpful words would really help me. Thank you.

My 12 month old will only drink milk warm out of a bottle. Juice and water are fine in his cup but not milk.

We've tried substituting the cup for the bottle, but no matter what we do (different cups, etc.), she won't drink milk out of the cup for any length of time. I worry she's not getting enough milk until bedtime when we still give her the bottle. I have several different types of cups and it doesn't seem to matter. There is NO problem drinking juice from the cup, so it's definitely a milk thing. She's 15 months old and I'm concerned about getting her weaned from the bottle before the next check-up.

My son is 9 months and MUST be off the bottle before 12 months. He has to have oral surgery and they don't want him sucking on ANYTHING. Thankfully he was never a paci baby (didn't like 'em much, except to chew on) so I don't have to break him of that as well. He has a hard time sucking (surgery will fix that) and thus will not use most sippy cups. My dad brought us some of the Tupperware sippys from when I was a child and my son seems to like those - but they have no valves and are NOT spillproof, which means I can't leave him unattended with it at all. It also means not having one at naps because he drops the bottle/cup once he's asleep. Handles also seem to be right out.
The poor kid has NO choice in the matter, but that doesn't exactly make it easier. The suggestion to let him play with it might help, since he can't play with it while it's full (because he'll dump it over).

My child didn't have much of a problem transitioning from a bottle to a sippy cup but, she keeps on waking up in the middle of the night to ask for milk. She won't fall back asleep with out it.

My daughter just turned 1 a week ago, she's been using a sippy cup for about 4 days now. She loves using a regular cup, but it's extremely messy because she has no control over the flow of milk. I'm going to continue to practice the cup with her (outdoors) but for now I think her sippy cups are doing the job. I can't wait to see how much she'll have progressed 6 months from now!

I took my son off the bottle at about 18 months he had no problem drinking milk from a sippy cup. It might be hard I went two nights of him crying and yelling I cuddled him and that helped a little but it worked. Now however he is TWO and still wakes up in the night time to drink milk from a sippy cup. About to do the same thing with the sippy cup. I wish you all luck with your little ones.

This has a lot of good advice in it.My son, however, never really took to a bottle (he was BF) but I still introduced a sippy cup at 6 months (around the same time he was being introduced to solids) so that he could associate it with meal time, hopefully I'll be as lucky if I have anymore kids in the future,& if not,I can always refer back to these helpful hints (:

We started with transitioning one meal at a time. In the morning, we gave him a cup, and no other options. Eventually, he took it because we did not give in. Then, once he got use to that meal with a cup, we would work on the next meal time a few weeks later.

My son is 21 months now and i have tried to "lose" his bottle but that is the only way he drinks his milk. When it's bedtime I sometimes give in and lose the battle because he is so irritable.

'Being challenged by shifting from bottle to sippy cup with my 1 yr old twins, who love to play around with their sippies! Didn't have the same problem with the pacifiers because they self-weaned by 4 months. 'Guess you can't ahve it all!

ok...my son gave up his pacifier when he was two...now i have taken him off his bottle just recently like two weeks ago. he is 2 3/4 years old and the only way he would drink milk is in his bottle. now whatever cup i let him choose or try he refuses to use it. i give him extra cheese and yougurt throughout the day to get that calcium he needs. are there any other ideas that might be able to help me with my situation? when my first was little i didnt have this problem swapping cups bottles etc...HELP!!!

When my daughter was four monthes, she would not take a bottle and her doctor told me to try a soft spout sippy. It worked. But now she refuses to take any other type of sippy cup.
