I have a friend who was mother of 3 and was working full time, so tummy time was not a priority at her house. The back of her son's head is flat from being on his back so much and it took him a very long time to start rolling over and crawling. Her doc said it was all because he didn't develop his neck mussels so that slowed down his development.
So when my husband and I had a son of our own, We started tummy time early and frequently.

My little guys hates tummy time so much, I really want to give up! However, I know it is essential for development, so we have endured the screaming and ended tummy time with both of us being very irritated and exhausted. I am going to try these ideas and hope something works! Thanks for the tips!!

my son is a month old and i have done some tummy time with him on my chest. he holds his head up and i put my hands beneath his feet and he pushes agaisnt them and moves forward up my chest using his arms as well. he seems to love doing it and it seems like great practice for crawling.

Our baby loves tummy time when he can stare at a fun toy! He is one month and especially likes black and white, high-contrast toys!

My second son just turned three months and hates tummy time!! I have tried everything from the pillow under his chest to buying a tummy time mat and nothing seems to work for him. As soon as I put him down on the floor he starts to scream:( He will not even lift his head he just lies there with his face smothered into the blanket. Is there anything different I can try doing for him to like it?

The boppy is great! I never really used it while nursing. It was uncomfortable and seemed to put my girl up too high to nurse effectively. Now that shes two months though I use it all the time! Its great for tummy time (and to just prop her up in general for hanging out, pictures or whatever. And use the toys just out of reach. My girl kicks and pushes herself toward a favorite toy. Even though she doesn't have much upper body strength to use her arms yet, those legs are working quite well!

My daughter hated tummy time at first! I sometimes felt like I was torturing her because she would cry so helplessly and look at me as though I were the devil. Her doctor told me to be patient and keep giving her short stints of tummy time a few times each day. After many tears on both sides and a many weeks of sticking to it, she began to enjoy her tummy time and now she loves it, and she is nearly on her way to crawling. So, if your baby hates their tummy time too, just remember it doesnt hurt your baby to do some things that frustrate them or make them uncomfortable, eventually they will get the hang of it!

I baited my son into rolling over with one of his favorite toys just out of reach and since he has started rolling everywhere. I don't know how to get him to try to pick his belly off the floor to actually crawl.

Our little one spends quite a deal of time on the floor ever since he turned 4 months.Toys are a great incentive to getting his crawling skills improved.

This article was very informative. I dont like hearing my son cry so I leave him on his tummy for a while till I cant take it. He does not really like being on his tummy and putting toys in front of him makes him more irrated any suggestions on how to make him enjoy it?

I also love the Boppy idea. My baby gets frustrated being on her belly, but it did help her roll from her tummy to her back at 5 weeks old. It was a fun accomplishment even though she was angry about being on her tummy at the time.

My two month old can stand tummy time for about a minute at a time. But I'm going to keep at it, he likes it a bit more each time we try.
