My son is 18 months, and showing many of these signs listed for potty training readiness. I have videos and am about to get some potty training related books to read with him. I am glad I read this article and found it to be very informative and encouraging. Let the journey begin!!

Both of my kids were secret poopers which made it very hard to completely potty train them. Just work with them and their diet and help build their confidence. Don't force them to go. Make it natural.

I am already afraid of the challenge. My daugther is 17 months, so we have started to introduce her to the potty and let her feel comfortable when we go.

My daughter just turned 2 less than a month ago. ive been trying to potty train her for a long time but she just wasnt ready. But about 4 days ago she said "mama go pee in big girl potty" and ever since then she has been potty trained. It was so weird cuz it was out of the blue and i didnt even have to work with her after that point she just tells me whenever she has to go and now she loves her big girl panties!

Great tips!!! I potty train my girl when she was 20 months, but we took her to the bathroom with us even before to make sure that she knows it natural and everybody poops. We got here a sticker chart in the bathroom and let her chose and put on stickers by herself. It took 2 weeks and she was potty train.

I was glad to see that up to 3 is a normal age because everyone around me seems to think they need to tell me wjen my son should be trained.I was also wondering about the spanking issue-we have a neighbor who spanks when their daughter wets and I think that's horrible-thanks for verifying that for me

My experience has been that the child's interest and motivation is tantamount. If they are not ready, I think you will be just making you and your child unhappy.

I am just starting to potty train my daughter and things have been a bit difficult with her because she has had a hard time with firm stools. We backed off for a while, but are starting to train again, as it is my goal to have her potty trained by the time she goes to daycare. She is 22 months and shows all of the indications of being ready to potty yet withholds because her stools were firm for a while. They are mush softer now and she has not trouble going, but I see that the few firm stools made a big difference in her willingness to sit on the potty. We are starting to offer her incentives to sit on the potty and try to go, hope these help. If not we will back off again and give her more time. I do believe being over forceful will only make matters more difficult for her.

Each child will have their own terms, my daughter says she has to go poopoo even when it is just peepee. She is just now starting to get the wanting to go on a regular basis and we have been in the beginning stages for about 6 months. When we are out & about she usually uses the bathroom but when we are at home where she is most comfortable. It is different each day. My son all it took was cherrieos & food coloring to potty train. My daughter is soooo different.

Patience & Praise, just like cheering them on when they learned to walk. Be patient, be positive and BE KIND (Remember all the excitement when they were walking, and the encouragement you gave if they wobbled and fell? Use that attitude with potty training and it will be less stressful and more successful.) Like the article says, every child is different. no need to compare your's to others because they are all unique. Potty on!
