Protecting Our Carpet from a Messy Eating Baby

As parents, how can we let our babies go through this phase of learning to self-feed, and yet keep our floors clean?

Review 1 for Protecting Our Carpet from a Messy Eating Baby

We live in an apartment so I don't care as much as I should about the carpet. Only enough to keep it clean so my son doesn't turn his knees black while crawling. But I seriously do dread the thought of letting him try spaghetti in our carpeted dining room. Who sane carpets their dining room??

Some things that are reasonable in price that you can use to put under your childs highchair are the kind of matts you buy to put under your computer chair, the plastic tarps you use to protect carpet when you paint, a linoleum remnant from a store that sells flooring, a in a pinch a large bath or beach towel or throw rug. Many of these items are great for using for your little one to play with colors, markers, finger paints, playdough, etc. as well. We used a piece of linoleum when our daughter was little and she continued to use it for many many years to come to put down to practice tap dancing on for dance class so as not to mark up our tile and wood floors, as well as for painting her fingernails and toenails.
