It helps to travel at a time when your child is tired or would usually be sleeping. If he is anything like my boys he will be out in no time.

I just went on a trip with my 1 1/2 year old and I had read this before going and we just got home and let me tell you that this worked out GREAT!

For long car rides I've always sat in the backseat with him while hubby drives. It's much easier on him to have me back there to play with him.

I also wanted to add to this article... Bring a portable DVD player if you have one or a tablet. We are always on the go and I used to let my toddler use my phone, but then when it rang; I had to take it back and that led to melt down. So I bring his favorite movies and he enjoys the ride even more.

I bought a portable dvd player and the really helped an 8 hour drive we had during a thanksgiving trip to my parent's house. The cooler idea was great. I could pre pack milk, juice and yogurt. Thanks Huggies!

Good information here, but I'm not sure I agree with the wrapped gifts idea. Seems like that could teach your child to expect gifts every time you take a long car ride.
I keep a mini magna doodle in my diaper bag and it has saved the day on multiple occasions!

Always remember to keep things in their reach as well as yours! That way your not constantly doing the twist and reach.

We went on a trip recently 6 hours in the car 2 two year olds and made sure to bring lots of healthy snacks and drinks for them (energy drinks for us). Talking books, blankets and two of everything. It wasn't so bad, one fell asleep the other took a little nap, but we all had a blast. singing songs and pointing out things we saw helped alot.

Don't forget the blankie!!! Snacks are great unless your child tends to get carsick. Our son must eat hours before we go and cannot be given anything on the ride if possible. We travel at night to avoid many of the hassles daytime brings. Three trips from Ohio to Boston with very little mishap. The last with 3 kids under 3and 1/2 years old for 9 hours!

We travel with our two year old all the time and it seems to go really well. I think that traveling with them from when they are little and simply expecting the best also works well!
