Swaddlers and sleep sacks. They are easy to use and help to keep baby warm at night. And if your baby is like mine, where every time they move they wake up it helps them to keep their arms still and against their chest.

I love to read to children. I had a friend that requested at her shower that instead of bringing and signing cards to bring there fav. baby book and sign that to the baby. I'm so going to do this. Im all about functional gifts. :)

A friend of mine told me she uses that velcro blanket. Is there a special name for it? I would like to definitely get one.

Was it a Halo sleep sack? My baby loved it too :) I've heard some hospitals are starting to use those since they are safe (SIDS prevention). Good luck!
Oh I loved this article! I never thought of giving free maid service... what a great idea, even if it was a one time cleaning service that had your house cleaned and ready for you and the new baby to arrive home. And I loved the basket full of things that another mom found useful. These are great ideas and I know these 2 will be a grand slam at a baby shower.

Great ideas for those who already have children! And lets be realistic, what new mommy is going to turn away an already cooked meal? Its way better than fast food, and ordering out!

This makes me wish I had had a baby shower. I love the tote bag gift! It would have been great to have when I had my first baby.

The best gift I have ever gotten was my first set of two hand-made cloth diapers. I have always wanted our kids to wear cloth diapers instead of disposable. Everyone can appreciate the feel of breathable material on their bottoms! ; ) Now all I have to do is line the inside with the birdseye cloths and we'll be good to go. I was so elated when I received this gift.

I loved the fact that when I got clothes as gifts people got me all different sizes. I got enough clothes in 0-3, 3-6, and 6-9 months that I won't have to buy anymore, though who can resist buying a cute outfit every so often just because.

i stopped having baby showers after my first son and just had diaper parties after that...bring a box of diapers and wipes each and come hang out. i found i could ALWAYS use the diapers...and without getting unwanted items that could not be exchanged.

The best gift I received was lanolin! I had no idea what it was best it was a total lifesaver for breastfeeding. I also loved that I got so much diaper cream and baby powder. Didn't have to actually buy any for several months!

The gifts I found to be the most helpful and thoughtful were diapers and gift cards to relevent places. Neither of which I recieved but I was at least able to return a good portion of the gifts we did get and purchase diapers or get gift cards from the returned items. Our office has a group of women who when someone has a baby or death/sickness in the family these women get together and prepare three meals for the family. Which was fantastic!
